Re: Councilman Zine urges pay cuts for top officials

Thanks to the hard work of LAPD officers Los Angeles has seen historic crime reductions—the crime rate in the City is lower than it has been at any time since the 1950's. However, in tough economic times, crime rates typically go up. This is why it is crucial, now more than ever, that we preserve the level of professionalism and experience of the LAPD. There are currently thousands of unfilled law enforcement jobs in the state of California. We have heavily invested in the Academy and on-the job training of our officers, and it would be extremely shortsighted to lose our skilled officers to departments where public safety is a higher budgetary priority.
