iPhone helps LAPD track down robbery suspects

A stolen iPhone helped police track down a gang of robbery suspects involved in a crime spree in the Hollywood area Sunday night.

LAPD says four men, armed with a pistol, crow bar, pipe and baseball bat, drove around from 9 p.m. until midnight, looking for their victims. They confronted at least three different individuals, stealing money, cellphones and at least one laptop.

"They were driving around looking for likely victims on side streets or in dark areas that they felt that they could prey upon," said LAPD Det. Bradley Mossie.

One of the last victims had activated his Find My Phone app and used his GPS to help find the approximate location of the phone.

Police caught up with the suspects near Santa Monica Boulevard and Virgil Avenue. The men were arrested, and police recovered stolen property and weapons.

They are now investigating whether there are other victims. Anyone with information is urged to call the LAPD Hollywood Station at (213) 485-4302.
