LAPD recognizes dispatchers, holds open house at West Hills dispatch center

As part of National Dispatchers Week the LAPD opened the doors to the public at its Valley Communications Dispatch Center in West Hills on Tuesday.

National Dispatchers Week was established in 1992 by President George H. Bush and honors police dispatchers nationwide for providing vital emergency services in their respective communities.

LAPD dispatchers, known as Police Service Representatives (PSRs) fulfill the dual role of police dispatchers and 9-1-1 operators.

In 2010, PSRs provided all dispatching services for the police department and answered 3.9 million calls for police service from the public, according to LAPD.

The agency's Metropolitan Dispatch Center in downtown Los Angeles will hold another open house on Friday, April 15.

Tour reservation requests can be made to PSRs Angela Rodriguez or Janelle Williams in the Community Relations Unit at 213-978-6510 or 213-978-6511.
