LAPPL statement on San Jose Police Officer Michael Katherman killed in the line of duty

Los Angeles, June 15, 2016 — The Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL) expresses its deepest sympathies to the family of San Jose Police Officer Michael Katherman who was killed in the line of duty yesterday. Our condolences also go out to the men and women of the San Jose Police Department who mourn the loss of a brother officer. Our prayers and thoughts are with the Katherman family and the San Jose Police family.

The members of the Los Angeles Police Department know all too well the pain felt by Officer Katherman’s family, his fellow officers and the San Jose community. Officer Katherman gave his life while protecting and serving San Jose residents, and as fellow law enforcement officers, we honor his ultimate sacrifice.

This is also a reminder to every law enforcement officer that the work we do is inherently dangerous in many different ways. We accept that fact every day when we begin our watch and do all we can to ensure the public’s safety as well as our own.

About the LAPPL: Formed in 1923, the Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL) represents the more than 9,900 dedicated and professional sworn members of the Los Angeles Police Department.
