Los Angeles, November 21, 2008 - The Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Police Protective League today announced a transition in leadership. Sergeant Paul M. Weber is the new League President, replacing Officer Tim Sands, who will retire from the Los Angeles Police Department in December, after 34 years of service.

Sergeant Weber has worked patrol in all four geographic bureaus that make up the City of Los Angeles. His assignments include working as a gang unit officer, a field training officer, and as a patrol sergeant. In November 2001, Weber was elected to the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Police Protective League, first as a Director, then as the Treasurer, and as the Vice President.

The 2008-2009 Protective League Board also includes: Officer Corina Lee, Officer Ramon Espinosa; Lieutenant Brian Johnson, Detective Tyler Izen, Officer Peter Repovich, Officer John Mumma, Officer Scott Rate, and Officer Kristi Newton Sandoval.

“Tim Sands has been an immeasurable asset to this League. Under his leadership, we have made great strides in fighting off attacks in Sacramento, maintaining flexible work schedules, and working to create solutions to the impositions of the Consent Decree,” said Weber.

"With Paul Weber taking over the reins, I leave confident that the Board is in terrific shape to meet the challenges ahead, including contract negotiations and our continuing efforts to give Los Angeles Police officers the tools they need to keep our City safe,” added Sands.
