Police searched the San Fernando Valley on Thursday morning for a man suspected of stealing a car, crashing it and firing shots at an officer while fleeing. A second suspect has been taken into custody.

Authorities said police were following a stolen car when it crashed at 12:51 a.m. near Sunny Brae Avenue Elementary in Winnetka.

Officers were pursuing the suspects when one suspect fired at an officer. The officer was not injured.

The suspects were wearing black or blue sweatshirts with hoods and blue jeans, authorities said.

The area near Strathem to Saticoy streets had been shut down due to the search.

Sunny Brae Avenue Elementary opened a few minutes late after police searched the campus.
