Berkow back in the news

Michael Berkow, the former head of LAPD's internal affairs unit, has resigned as chief of police in Savannah, GA to join a division of the company that recently hired LAPD chief William Bratton. Berkow says he was approached about the job in April, which would mean - if everybody is telling the truth - that he was contacted months before his former boss, Bratton, held his first real conversation about working for Altegrity. The timing of Bratton's contact could be interesting because until mid-July, the head of Altegrity was a federal court monitor of Bratton and the LAPD. Berkow was newsworthy as a deputy chief at the LAPD: clashing with the Police Protective League over investigations of officers, accused of sexual harassment by an officer who said she saw two women leaving his bedroom-equipped office, and admitting to a three-year affair with a sergeant under his supervision.
