Bratton: 'Blow Up Parker Center'

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES-More adventures with Downtown News photographer Gary Leonard. He says, "I took another tour of police plaza yesterday (after taking one with Councilmember Jan Perry last week) because it's one of our last public views of [LAPD Chief William] Bratton.

"Taking the tour was good because I learned they had just inked the deal we talked about last week for the new restaurant, to be called L.A. Reflections.

"Bratton says police plaza will be at capacity when it opens.

"He said they should blow up Parker Center, that a Hollywood film crew should buy Parker Center and blow it up because it's useless.

I guess my answer to him is that you ought to call the Conservancy before you blow it up. But I guess he's coming from a place that. . .. I guess it's been difficult to work there.

"He said he's only going to be here long enough to make a dent on the chair in his new office. That's the only impression he'll make, though he also says he may sign the underside of one of the drawers like presidents of the United States do. A reporter reminded him that presidents leave letters, not sign seats."

"Bratton said he's happy with the new building being the Police Administration Building, PAB. The acronym is weird, but. . . .

Gary's last comment re PAB: "Having photographed so much architecture, you really only have to look at that building to appreciate its lines."
