LAPD Sgt. Larry Martinez honored by Phoenix House
Sgt. Larry Martinez of the Foothill Division of the Los Angeles Police Department

Sgt. Larry Martinez of the Foothill Division of the Los Angeles Police Department.

During the 9th Annual Triumph for Teens Awards Gala, on June 6, 2012, at the Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles, Phoenix House will honor its long-time supporter and volunteer, LAPD Sergeant Larry Martinez.

Sgt. Martinez of the Foothill Division of LAPD has made significant contributions to our treatment program at Phoenix House Academy of Los Angeles in Lake View Terrace, where he has led "Speak Up!" workshops with police officers and youth for the past three years. You can read about these innovative workshops and his work in a Speak Up! report posted last year. The workshops, in turn, have been developed with the collaboration of the Seattle Police Department as a part of the West Side Story Project and are now in the process of being replicated at the Phoenix House Academy of Orange County in Santa Ana, with the assistance of Sgt. Martinez. We are grateful for his commitment and mentorship to the youth we serve.

We will also honor Dr. Charles J. Sophy, F.A.C.N., Medical Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services for his leadership in the field of drug abuse treatment.
