LAPPL Endorses Dennis P. Zine for Los Angeles City Controller

LOS ANGELES, February 27, 2012 – Today, the Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL) officially announced its endorsement of Dennis P. Zine for Los Angeles City Controller. The LAPPL joins a growing list of public officials and community leaders embracing Zine’s candidacy.

“With the City’s finances still on shaky ground, we need a Controller who has a detailed understanding of City government and the financial pressures we face. Dennis Zine brings over four decades of committed public service to the position of City Controller,” said Tyler Izen, President of the LAPPL. “As a 33-year LAPD veteran, Dennis made public safety his life’s profession. For the past decade, he has brought that same intensity for protecting the public to the Los Angeles City Council. Dennis has shown in his role as Chairman of the Council’s Audits and Government Efficiencies Committee that he won’t tolerate the waste, fraud and abuse that plague the city.”

While the city has faced major cuts to public services, including furloughs, layoffs and a freeze on hiring new police officers, Zine has led the charge to reclaim revenues owed to the city and to hold city departments accountable for cutting expenses and focusing on core services.

“I’m very honored to have earned the endorsement of the Los Angeles Police Protective League,” Zine said. “The LAPPL and the brave men and women who make up the organization are unwaveringly devoted to improving the quality of life for Los Angeles residents. I will work very hard to make sure that I give my focused commitment to upholding their trust and the trust of the people of Los Angeles.”

Councilmember Zine has served on the Los Angeles City Council for the past 10 years while also serving as an LAPD reserve officer. Prior to joining the City Council, he spent 33 years on the front lines of the Los Angeles Police Department. He has also donated several hundred thousand dollars of his salary to local charitable organizations while serving as a councilmember.

“While his experience makes him the natural choice, Dennis’ selfless involvement in the community and spirit for honest good government makes him the right choice,” Izen added. “The LAPPL strongly endorses Dennis Zine for Los Angeles City Controller.”

The LAPPL joins a long and impressive list of law enforcement leaders supporting Dennis Zine’s candidacy for Controller, including L.A. County Sheriff Lee Baca, L.A. County District Attorney Steve Cooley, and L.A. City Attorney Carmen Trutanich. For a complete list of endorsements, and more information on the campaign, please go to www.zineforcontroller.com.
