Law enforcement endorses Jackie Lacey for District Attorney

Los Angeles, September 7, 2012 – The two largest law enforcement associations, representing nearly 20,000 sworn personnel working in the City and County of Los Angeles, announced their support for Jackie Lacey to be the next Los Angeles County District Attorney. The Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL) and the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs (ALADS) announced their endorsements for Lacey today.

ALADS President Floyd Hayhurst explained that his association examined the long list of skills, experiences and professional approaches of both candidates, and determined that Lacey is the best candidate to lead the office. “After long discussions, our endorsement committee made a unanimous decision to support Jackie Lacey for District Attorney,” Hayhurst said. “We believe her skills and experience are the best for public safety in Los Angeles County.”

LAPPL President Tyler Izen also praised Lacey’s poise and qualifications. “Law enforcement officers know Jackie Lacey as a leader of unimpeachable integrity and unmatched effectiveness,” Izen said. “We need a DA with the experience to manage the nation’s largest local prosecutor’s office. Jackie Lacey, as second in command of the LA County District Attorney's office, is the best candidate with the proven executive management experience to tackle this vital job. We trust Jackie Lacey.”

Today’s announcement by rank and file officers adds to Lacey’s impressive list of law enforcement endorsements that include Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley, the Los Angeles County Police Chiefs’ Association, and Attorney General Kamala Harris.

Lacey is the second in command to Cooley. She is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the nation’s largest local prosecutorial office with nearly 1,000 attorneys, approximately 300 peace officers and more than 800 support staff members. “Jackie has been a very effective Chief Deputy District Attorney of Los Angeles County and she will be an even more effective District Attorney for police officers and residents of Los Angeles County,” Izen said.

As a longstanding member of the District Attorney’s executive management team, Lacey has reviewed almost every major case involving public corruption, organized crime, complex fraud and other crimes since 2004. For 10 years, Lacey served on the District Attorney’s special circumstance committee, which reviews the evidence in every death penalty-eligible case in the office and makes recommendations on the appropriate penalty in these cases.

“As police officers, we have had the privilege of working with Jackie for many years,” Hayhurst said. “Jackie works tirelessly to keep Los Angeles safer and she is an aggressive and passionate pursuer of justice on behalf of crime victims. We know she will apply that same work ethic and passion as District Attorney.”
