Los Angeles Police Protective League's Eagle & Badge Foundation hosts 1st Annual SummerFest benefit August 17

Wine, Spirits & Brew Tasting, Casino Games, Celebrity Guests, Live Music & Gourmet Food trucks highlight an evening under the summer stars to benefit families of LAPD officers & children in the community served by LAPD.

Los Angeles - The Los Angeles Police Protective League’s Eagle & Badge Foundation will hold its first annual SummerFest at the Elysian Park Police Academy, 1880 N. Academy Dr., Los Angeles on Friday, August 17 from 6 p.m.-11 p.m., benefiting LAPD officers, their families and children in the communities they serve.

Guests will enjoy a fun summer night under the stars at the Academy Field with LAPD officers, their guests and supporters tasting more than 50 wines, brews and spirits from more than two dozen vendors. Guests can then visit some of LA’s most popular gourmet food trucks before trying their luck in the casino playing poker, blackjack, craps or roulette or enjoying a hand-rolled cigar from Lovo Cigars.

Celebrity sightings expected are Ben McKenzie, Michael Cudlitz and Shawn Hatosy from the hit show Southland; J.K. Simmons from Law & Order and The Closer; Khandi Alexander from CSI: Miami; Tony Denison from The Closer and Major Crimes; and Krista Allen from The L.A. Complex, Days of our Lives, and Anger Management. These celebrities may share a poker table with you or deal a hand of blackjack. There will also be live music and dancing from Blue Jazz featuring LAPD’s own Carol Davis. Also performing, classic rock and blues band, The Hounds.

Funds raised provide much-needed financial support for LAPD officers and their families in times of crisis. Among recent cases was an officer’s wife who was severely injured in a fall requiring special therapy equipment; funding of trained service dogs for two autistic children of LAPD officers, and extraordinary medical expenses for an officer’s daughter. Funding is also provided for community organizations helping children in the communities served by LAPD officers. More than 150 grants have been provided since the organization was founded in 2001.

Sponsors for SummerFest include the Los Angeles Police Protective League, 911 Media, Los Angeles Police Revolver and Athletic Club, and the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs, OBand, McNicholas & McNicholas, and Straussner & Sherman.
